Camp Success at USC Engineering & Technology
August 2 – 7, 2009
USC – Columbia Campers will spend the week on the University of South Carolina Columbia Campus at Swearingen Engineering Center exploring careers in engineering and technology in a state-of-the-art facility. Working alongside university professors, your project team will work on real design and engineering problems that are impacting South Carolina community agencies and organizations. You’ll use your creativity, innovative thinking and problem-solving skills to develop a solution and learn about a broad range of career paths along the way. Camp Success at USC is open to Rising 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Camp will begin with an Orientation on Sunday, August 2 from 2:30 – 4:30 pm and run 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, August 3 – 7, 2009. Youth participating in Camp Success at USC will be engaged in experiential learning designed to immerse youth in engineering and computing experiences. This unique Camp Success experience will provide participants hands on, engineering and computing learning experiences, in a college campus environment while working with college students, and professors. Examples of topics in consideration are Cyber Security: Know Your Enemy, The Interactions of Magnetic Forces, Can Your Structure Withstand an Earthquake? The Testing of Fuel Cells, The Wonderful World of Gaming, and What Are Those Ants Doing? The cost to attend Camp Success at USC is $300.00 with a $100 deposit which will be applied to the fee. - Academic transcript from an accredited institution
- An Essay (one page, single-spaced) on why you want to attend Camp Success and what types of engineering problems you see impacting South Carolina agencies and organizations
- $100 deposit (which will be applied to the fee or refunded to students not accepted)
- Return application packet (postmarked) by July 1, 2009
