Discover Manufacturing
Discover Manufacturing is an education initiative of the Silver Crescent Foundation. It brings this sector together with educators, parents and young people to allow the latter to see and understand manufacturing career opportunities in their local communities. Specifically, the Silver Crescent Foundation develops and implements an action plan tailored for the manufacturing sector in a specific region, allowing manufacturers to connect with their community, increase interest in manufacturing careers among local students, and provide information on career paths, economic benefits and educational requirements. View our segment on Carolina Careers. Discover Manufacturing offers different outreach materials to help manufacturers engage educators, parents and students. The needs of each community will differ, and the Foundation will help organize a series of meetings through which local manufacturers can come together to assess their specific challenges and opportunities and choose a plan of action. Here are some of the tools available as part of the Discover Manufacturing initiative: - A video that highlights each local manufacturing company and describes what each company produces, how many jobs it has created, and how its presence affects the quality of life in the local community
- A forum at which manufacturers, educators, parents and young people can meet to discuss career opportunities and educational requirements
- Talking points for speakers representing the manufacturing industry to use at local meetings of civic groups, school presentations and other career exploration events
- Templates for press releases or feature articles to be used in local media
- Assistance planning and implementing mentoring, job shadowing, internship and apprenticeship program
- Industry appreciation ads that communicate the positive effect manufacturers have on the local community
- Assistance planning and implementing on-site tours at manufacturing facilities for educators, young people and community members
- Innovation or design contests that give students opportunities to use creativity in an area related to manufacturing
