New Year, New Beginnings

As with every New Year, I am thankful for the year just completed and hopeful for the possibilities and opportunities a new one provides and 2009 is no exception!

The Silver Crescent Foundation continues to work to expose educators, parents and teachers to the diversity of career opportunities available in South Carolina.

Until Next Time,

Visit New SCF Web Site

After months of work, the Silver Crescent Foundation is pleased to unveil its newly revamped web site:  www.SilverCrescentSC.org.  Thanks to our friends at the Clare Morris Agency and Unimedia Solutions, we have consolidated our Internet presence and updated our resources to help spread our message to Discover Manufacturing!

There is a virtual representative to provide an overview of the site.  You can also check out our new Camp Success video and see some of the news stories about manufacturing's economic role in South Carolina.

We encourage you to check our site regularly for updates and if you are interested in our programs and initiatives, please check out the Get Involved! section to see how you can help more South Carolinians discover the benefits of manufacturing.

Help SCF Support Engineers Week in South Carolina!

The Silver Crescent Foundation is joining forces with New Carolina's Engineering Cluster and the National Engineers Week Foundation to promote the 2009 Engineers Week, scheduled for February 15 - 21.

Engineers from around the Palmetto State are encouraged to volunteer their time to share information on being an engineer with local students to increase understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers.

"Engineering plays such a vital role in making our lives better," said Gary Foster, president of Automation Engineering Corporation in Greenville and chair of the Silver Crescent Foundation. "By exposing young people to the career opportunities that exist in engineering and technology, we hope we can help build the workforce our state needs to be successful in the future.

"Engineers Week ties in closely with our Foundation's ongoing efforts to help people of all ages and backgrounds Discover Manufacturing and we encourage our engineer friends to participate in this valuable career exploration activity," Foster added.

According to Lee Stogner, chair of the South Carolina Engineering Cluster for New Carolina, there is still time to sign up to help a school in your community learn more about the benefits engineering careers provide. If you wish to participate or know a school looking for a guest engineering speaker, please contact Stogner at leestogner@southcarolinaengineering.org or visit www.southcarolinaengineering.org for more information.

Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE), Engineers Week is one of the nation's oldest professional outreach programs and works to foster great appreciation for the important contributions the engineering profession brings to society.
