Save the Date for the 2010 Salute to Manufacturing The Salute to Manufacturing is returning to the Midlands in 2010. We will hold the Salute on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center so mark your calendars now! Once again produced by the Silver Crescent Foundation and the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, this year's Salute will recognize the Silver Crescent Manufacturer of the Year Awards at the annual awards luncheon. In addition, there will be an educational forum for manufacturers in the morning and a pre-lunch reception honoring all past award recipients. Both organizations are currently recruiting sponsors and more information can be found on the Silver Crescent web site or contact Karen Owens for details. Camp Success ramping up for 2010 The Silver Crescent Foundation is teaming up to offer three sessions of its popular academic day camp, Camp Success, for rising middle school students interested in exploring careers in engineering and technology. The first session will be June 6-12 in Florence at Florence-Darlington Technical College. There will be a session at USC Aiken June 20-25, and Greenville Tech will host a session June 20-26. "We are pleased to be hosting camps in Aiken, Florence and Greenville this summer," said SCF President Karen Owens. "Each of our educational partners was pleased with the success of last year's camps, and we look forward to getting more young people excited about channeling their interest in science, technology, engineering and math into viable careers in the manufacturing sector." There are sponsorship opportunities available for each of the camp locations, including camper scholarships for employees' children. "There is a great deal of preparation and training that go on to make sure these kids have a fun and challenging learning experience. Being a camp sponsor is a great way to showcase your company's support of building our future workforce and be part of a positive message to campers and their parents about the value of manufacturing jobs in our society," Owens added. 2010 Discover Manufacturing Design Challenge

National Engineers Week is February 14-20!
Once again, the National Engineers Week Foundation will be hosting activities and encouraging engineers to speak with young people across the nation about the important role engineers play in our society. In several communities across South Carolina, schools will be hosting engineers in their classrooms as students engage in career exploration activities to determine what path they may take upon completing their high school education. If you would like to volunteer and be part of E-week, please contact Lee Stogner with the South Carolina Engineering Cluster or visit www.southcarolinaengineering.org for more details.
