 Silver Crescent Award Nominations Now Being Accepted

The Silver Crescent Foundation and South Carolina Chamber of Commerce are pleased to announce the nominations process for the Silver Crescent Manufacturer of the Year award is now open, and manufacturers may access information on the award criteria and nomination process on the Chamber’s web site – www.scchamber.net. The deadline for entries is Friday, June 11, 2010, at 5:00 pm.  Download the application here.

The state’s top small, medium and large manufacturing companies will be recognized for their manufacturing excellence, economic impact, commitment to workforce development and community stewardship during the Salute to Manufacturing awards luncheon, scheduled for Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center in Columbia.

Once again produced by the Silver Crescent Foundation and the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, this year's Salute will recognize the Silver Crescent Manufacturer of the Year Awards at the annual awards luncheon. In addition, there will be an educational forum for manufacturers in the morning and a pre-lunch reception honoring all past award recipients.

 Design Challenge Winners Announced
 

The Silver Crescent Foundation and the South Carolina Department of Education's Office of Career and Technology Education, in partnership with the SC Regional Career Specialists, are pleased to announce the finalists in the ninth annual SC Discover Manufacturing Design Challenge. 

Kathy Edge presented the Silver Crescent Design Challenge Award to the state’s first place high school winner, Edward Fowler, and to his teacher, Mr. Doug Purinton, yesterday at Broome High School in Spartanburg District 3. Pictured below from left to right are: Mr. Doug Purinton, Engineering teacher at Broome High School in Spartanburg District 3; Edward Fowler, winning student; and Kathy Edge, Upstate Regional Career Specialist.

 

Below is the list of award recipients:

  • 1st Place, Edward Fowler, Spartanburg (11th grade, Broome High School)
  • 2nd Place, Ashley Crompton, Chester (11th grade, Chester County Career Center)
  • 3rd Place, Alaina Johnson, Moncks Corner (10th grade, Berkeley High School)
  • 1st Place, Nashell Simpson, Bluffton (8th grade, McCracken Middle School)
  • 2nd Place, Chloe Evans, Campobello (6th grade, Holly Springs-Motlow Elementary School)
  • 3rd Place, Darien Bonaparte, Orangeburg (7th grade, Robert E. Howard Middle School)

amp Success ramping up for 2010

The Silver Crescent Foundation is teaming up to offer three sessions of its popular academic day camp, Camp Success, for rising middle school students interested in exploring careers in engineering and technology.

The first session will be June 6-12 in Florence at Florence-Darlington Technical College. There will be a session at USC Aiken June 20-25, and Greenville Tech will host a session June 20-25.

There are sponsorship opportunities available for each of the camp locations, including camper scholarships for employees' children.   Read more about Camp Success at our website.
